Deputy HR Project Manager for Change Management
The Situation
IXPA was approached by Alstom, a multinational engineering client in Central China, to support them during the relocation of their manufacturing plant to a new location. Alstom is a world leader in the development of railway transport systems and services. Over 2000 people were employed at the site to be moved.
The Solution
IXPA identified a need for an interim project manager with strong HR experience. We identified an expert to carry out a thorough skills assessment of the current workforce and identify training needs ahead of the move to state of the art premises fitted with the latest innovative technology and upgraded machinery. The deputy HR project manager was chosen for his specific experience in transition management within large organisations. Mindful of the risks associated with relocating 20km away and the potential loss of personnel and experience, he was heavily involved in supporting and engaging staff throughout the assessment process and co-ordinating training and development for the entire team.
The Outcome
Our interim expert’s involvement as interim HR project manager resulted in a successful relocation within the desired one-year timeframe. His commitment to keeping employees informed at every stage of the process was directly responsible for 98% retention of staff and skills. Structured training and development was carried out in advance of the move which enabled full production to begin at the new high tech site from day one.
Keeping employees engaged and informed during a period of major change retains skills, minimises cost and reduces risk.
